Garages in Scotland sometimes become forgotten in the long dark days of winter and especially at Christmas, but we have some good reasons why you should remember them this Christmas.
Garage Security
You should check how secure your garage is regularly.
- Does the lock still work and if so could a burglar easily break it and get in?
- If you have a window in your garage could it be a possible entry point for a burglar.
- Do you live in an area that has had lots of bike thefts recently? It may be time to consider installing an alarm system.

Interior & Exterior Lighting for GaragesInstalling lights both inside and outside your garage is a sensible idea. If you need to run out to the garage to get something during the Scottish winter you will need an interior light or a torch to see inside your garage even during parts of the day. Having an indoor light with a switch near the door is so much safer and useful.
Exterior lights on a sensor can be useful for seeing the lock and possibly for illuminating your walk to your house. However, the police do recommend them for security purposes as thieves do not like to be seen, so are likely to move onto another premises if your garage is lit up as soon as they walk up the drive.
